This season I am inspired by those who convince the rise of sure subculture. The use of innovative fabrics escalates to fresh heights from printed silk velvet to waxed gingham, applique daisy mesh, Kroc embossed leathers, melted sequin jacquard and technical gabardines the ELLERY uniform continues to evolve unexpectedly. Darkly romantic, sophisticated and refined, the collection embodies the brand’s recognizable foundations, whilst marking a new path towards a rebellious future. The leaders who still seek revolt and revolution. Progressive and highly engrossing : a new pilgrimage through the wondrous subconscious of the powerful female persona, inspired by cult film, The Holy Mountain’. Exploring the individual female personas in cult film The Holy Mountain’ and their diverse characteristics played a central role when designing the Resort ’17 collection. The various female symbolism characters in the film range from the alchemist’s silent assistant, a weapons' manufacturer from the planet Mars, both the wife and lover to a millionaire art dealer, war toy maker of planet Saturn and a group of prostitutes one with a pet ape. Legend goes that earlier the principal photography commenced, Jodorowsky and his wife spent a week without sleep under the direction of a Japanese Zen master. Fabric choices, as always, are anchored in the luxurious, however this season they receive on an daring twist. Volume is explored through the use of gathered ruffles and shirring across both sculptural and liquid silhouettes. Flashes of skin are revealed with slashed sleeves, circular cut outs and vertiginous splits all creating dimensional space. Aristocratic, progressive and highly engrossing Resort ’17 presents a dizzying display of looks that are designed to empower the wearer and create clothes for women of excellence. And then it sticks, it transforms, it becomes an obsession. It is as much about finding new meanings for the worn adages of sensuality, as it is about exercising fresh muscles. We want to unravel, deconstruct and reconstruct pieces from another era, in fresh ways making them apropos today said original director, Kim Ellery. It is a collection that explores the contrast between old and new, occupied with pieces that are both fluid and structured in equal measure. Accent colors of yellow and candy pink lighten the mood whilst metallic tones flicker throughout. Signature flares were presented in diverse proportions some with raw then embroidered edges. Ultimately, no matter the origin of the idea, the final goal remains the same: to empower the wearer through design and to create clothes for women of excellence. This has resulted in a collection that is both flamboyant and sophisticated. Silhouettes are both aggressive and structured, whilst at the alike time fluid and feminine. Easy silk pussy bows juncture with tight Japanese drill, punctuated with top stitching and smooth metal eyelets. The individual pieces nod to the 1970’s with a uniquely modern riff. Fabric choices harmoniously differ customary suiting and British silk hounds tooth meeting foam jersey, Japanese cu pro and Swiss Durex net.
